I split my time between a small public library outside of Madison and the administration department for the General Library System at UW-Madison.
I enjoy the variety and the different kinds of projects I get to work on in both positions. The main project I'm working on at my university library job is to get a new Library News page/section/blog up and running. Instead of working in the formal press release format, I'll be spreading the word about upcoming library events, new resources, and services through a nifty Wordpress blogging platform. While we're still working out the kinks, I can't wait for the chance to share the "cool stuff" in addition to announcements, news, and other press-worthy content.
I was even more gratified to read this recent post from Ragan.com. "The Press Release Diet" encourages communicators to let go of their press release format for a while - and actually instructs them to use a blogging platform instead. Much easier to link to, reporters and other readers can easily subscribe to it, and it just changes the whole tone of a news site. ♥
